It is so hard to believe that a short year ago Charlie
and Erin were newlyweds.
It is even harder to believe that they are now expecting
a baby! Yes, if you haven’t already heard, Erin is pregnant. She
is due July 3rd which is also her birthday. We are excited about
welcoming another grandchild to the family but it doesn’t compare with
how excited Charlie and Erin are. Even though we’ll miss her skills
as a trainer here at the farm, we can’t wait for a new baby to cuddle
and to teach to ride.
We’ve had a great year here at Stoner Ridge Farm. There
have been some fantastic horses to work with and wonderful people who came
into our lives.
Thanks to all of you who have made it so much fun!

Larry Whitesell Clinic
A renown gaited horse trainer, Larry Whitesell, will be
conducting a clinic at Doug and Jill Drenik’s home in Dry Ridge, KY
December 3rd through the 7th. The Stoner Ridge crew has been invited
to attend. There is always more to learn about gaited horses. Larry
conducts clinics at his own training facility in Cookville, TN and has
several Paso Finos. Jill says that Robert and Larry have very similar
philosophies. Robert, Charlie, and (hopefully) Erin are looking
forward to an exciting week working with Larry.

Steve Heuslein Visits SRF
Last week we had a wonderful time with Steve Heuslein. Being from
LaCross, MN, Steve doesn’t get to spend too much time here at the farm. He
was able to come to most of the AAA shows, however. It was great to
spend a couple of days with him. While I was at school, Charlie and
Robert gave some lessons with Silver, Jazzy, and River Phoenix. Robert
also worked Steve’s new yearling gelding, Pepper’s Capital Venture, in
the round pen. They enjoyed going out to the UMH property to trail
ride. Steve got to ride Silver and Jazzy on the trail. We had a great
time and hope that Steve can come back for a visit again soon.

New Riders for SRF
Since Brian has moved to Oklahoma and Erin is sitting out the season,
we have been looking for new riders for SRF. Logan Banks, a GRC High
School student, came by last week looking for a job. He has ridden
horses and worked on farms most of his life. He took a test run on a
day off school and did a great job. He’ll be working with us around
his school schedule. A young lady is also coming from Midway to do an
internship this spring. We’re looking forward to working with these
young folks.

Current Economy Forces Rate Increase
The 2007 show season was a great success for Stoner Ridge Farm. We
have started several outstanding horses and won many awards due to our
clients’ devoted support. We were able to maintain the rates we
established last January even though fuel costs have continued to soar. The
drought has also caused the price of hay to increase dramatically. Fortunately,
we had contracted most of our hay early in the season which kept our cost
lower than what most folks had to pay. In order to maintain a high
quality training program, we must adjust our rates for next year.
The following new rates will go into effect January 1, 2008:
-
Show prep and hauling 50 miles or more is $.50 per mile
-
Board in paddocks $250 (increased $50)
-
Full training for new clients will be $600 per month
-
Reimbursement on other show costs—entry fees, stalls, etc.
-
Trophies and ribbons to owners
-
Paybacks to trainer/rider except for juveniles (they keep paybacks)
-
K.E.E.P money will go to the owners of Kentucky bred horses
Injured
Recent injuries have caused problems for a couple of horse trainers we
know. Dougie Spears, trainer for Van Bert Farms, had a dirt bike
accident recently and broke his leg. He has pins, a plate, and screws
holding it all together. Also, a young man from Maysville, Justin
Spencer, was hurt in a horse accident. He had just gone out on his
own and now he won’t be able to ride for about 12 weeks. Please
keep these folks in your thoughts and prayers.

Thanks Again
If you remember last year, we had planned to go to the Road to the
Horse Trainers’ Challenge in TN and were unable to get tickets. Thanks
to Nancy Copland, that won’t be the case this year. She has secured
the tickets and reserved rooms as well. Wow . . Talk about being on
the ball. Thank you Nancy!

Welcome
We want to say welcome to Joyce Bonicamp’s filly. TC’s Blue Lady. Charlie
has her started under saddle and she reminds me of my show mare, Fancy. She’s
doing great. Joyce recently came to get Tyrone and left Lady in his
place. We wish we could keep them both; they are such nice
horses.
Correction: Last month, we welcomed a couple of new geldings that
would be coming from Doug and Jill but didn’t have the correct names. They
are Moe and Shadow. Welcome fellas!
Christmas Story
Now there were in the same country
shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over
their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord
stood before them,
and the glory of the Lord shone around them,
and they were greatly afraid.
Then the angel said to them,
I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to
all people.
“For there is born unto you this day
in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
And this will be a sign unto you: You will find the
Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”
And suddenly there was with the angel
a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and
saying:
“Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!
Luke 2: 8-14

Sweet
At a recent horse show, Erin met a little girl who ‘just loves
horses.’ Erin brought her back to the barn where she was in awe.
How thoughtful it was of her to write the sweetest thank you note. Her
mom wrote a note as well. What kind folks!
