The day of the 5th annual UMH awards banquet began early with the
Judge’s Committee meeting at 10:00 A.M. Judge Jimmy Black,
who will be conducting the clinic in Murfreesboro next week. was on
hand to meet with the committee. They discussed criteria and
established a schedule (see p. 2).
The Show Committee met at 2:00 P.M. with the goal of reducing the
number of classes from 66 to 50 for the Summer Gala (formerly the
Summer Celebration) that will be held in conjunction with the NWHA
at Asheville, NC this year. The committee also established the need
for a budget and coordination of the shows that will be sponsored by
UMH this year. Those shows are the Carson Masters Spring
Premier, the Summer Gala, the KY State Championship, and the World
Show. The Ladies Auxiliary will be handled by the ladies and is
not technically under this umbrella. All these shows (as are
the South East shows and N. Middletown) are AAA status.
The Ladies Auxiliary met following the Show Committee. Cyndee
Breslin moved everything right along establishing committees. Points
will be kept and dues collected to ensure the work and mission of
the committee is accomplished. Thank you Nancy Copland for
volunteering to assist with this effort.
The youth committee also met to elect officers and plan for the
year. Congratulations to Shannon Lorance who was elected
secretary. We encourage everyone to become more involved with
the youth organization. They are our future!
Finally, it was time for the banquet. We had a great steak
meal. The entire SRF staff was on hand to enjoy the fellowship.
Many clients also made the trip from great distances to be present
for the festivities which included a silent auction (congratulations
Nancy on your purchase of the Breyer Tobe horse) and the raffle for
the golf cart. We had a great time watching as names were
pulled out and eliminated. Jill Drenik made it to the final
five but was beat out by Bud Salsbury.
High Point Awards were presented along with several other special
awards. Congratulations to Don and Nancy Copland on their Out Reach
Award! Carolyn Kenton received the Volunteer Award, Bruce
Addington the Visionary Award, Ann Adkins the sportsmanship award,
and Natalie Wright received the Super Youth Award (which was a
Victor’s riding suit) for her involvement with the youth program. The
High Money Horse Award was won this year by Derick Tipton with Ace
of Spades who has been retired after two wonderful years. Congratulations
to all the participants and to the winners. A complete listing
of SRF winners has been added to our web site. It’s been a
fantastic year. We can’t wait to see what 2007 will bring. Thanks
everyone!
Moving Back to KY
It won’t be long before we’ll be welcoming Scott and Barrie
Hughes (Gail’s owers) back to our area from CO. Scott flew in
last Friday to check out property in the western part of the state. We
can’t wait to have the closer so they can enjoy the shows with us
this summer.
Recovering
We want to wish Jill Drenik a speedy recovery from an ankle
injury. The doctor told her it is a severe sprain but she
doesn’t have to have a cast. Doug Drenik is also recovering
but from a scheduled procedure — cataract surgery. Our
thoughts and prayers go out to them along with our get well wishes.
Robert also had a health scare two weeks ago when he experienced
numbness and tingling in his arms. We didn’t know if it was a
stroke or heart attack. He was admitted to ICU overnight and
had lots of tests. Fortunately, the MRI, stress test, and blood
work came back great and he looks healthy as a . . . . You
guessed it . . . . Healthy as a horse. We often take good
health for granted. We have much for which to be thankful.
