Come on down and join us at barn 10!
With the theme: The Gaits (Gates) of Glory, the World Show will be
more exciting this year than ever. Organizers have scheduled
classes to benefit the horse and rider with many demonstrations and
presentations planned throughout the week.
For the first time ever, five judges will enter the ring at the
same time to evaluate each class. Judges were selected by the
votes of the World Show participants in 2006. The judges chosen
are: Vernon Stamper, Melvin Wallace, Gary Oliver, Charlie Brown, and
Scott MacGreggor. The high and low score will be dropped and the
Majority Opinion System (the same system that we have used in the
past) will be used to determine the winner. The Breeders Cup and
the Equitation classes will use a single judge—Jane Blue. Ms.
Blue has been our steward for the past several years and has also
served as a judge. She’s very well versed and well qualified.
SRF is planning to take 18 or 19 horses this year. Rick Borher
is making the gates we will use with our decorating this year. We’ll
be using the show’s theme to create an inviting atmosphere. We’ll
be making trips to Harrodsburg on Saturday so we can be set up and
work horses before the show starts.
School starts for me on Aug. 10th. The children will come on
Monday - yes the same Monday that the show starts. I’ll
be driving down after class and then returning to Winchester early in
the mornings.
On our clients’ invoices this month, I have included the charges
for V.W. Perry and the cost of stalls at the World Show. Classes
will be billed next month along with stalls for the RMH International.
We are looking forward to having a great time. Please let us
know about your classes or anything else that we can help with. You
all are great!
Reminders
All owners, trainers, and exhibitors must be members of UMH,
KMSHA, and RMH in order to have their horses shown. Copies of
cards must be presented upon check-in to the fall shows. Since
SRF will make your entries, please send copies of your cards a.s.a.p.
Original registration papers will need to be sent to SRF prior
to the RMH International. They have requested originals only.
Saturday night of the World Show is Stoner Ridge Farm’s night
to provide goodies and beverages for the baskets. Anything you
can contribute will be appreciated. We’ll also need help with
distribution Saturday about 3:30 P.M.

Junior League Excitement
Tuesday night of the Lexington Junior League Saddlebred Horse Show
proved to be an exciting one for Stoner Ridge Farm! We had
cleaned and polished SRF’s Silver Sundown and Merry Go Blue until
they just glistened in the evening sun. We pulled into the field
and across track at the Red Mile. There we were across from the
grandstand.
The Junior League’s 71 year history has established it as one of
the premier shows in the nation. The show has raised millions for
Lexington charities. It also provides fabulous paybacks to the
exhibitors. The grand championship five gaited class pays back $10,000 to
the winner.
Promptly at 7:00 P.M. the announcer called for the flag horses and
gave the description of our stallions. The American and the
Kentucky State flags fluttered in the breeze. We watched as
Charlie and Erin were telecast up on the big video screen amid cheers
from the audience. Steve Heuslein, Silver’s owner was even able
to watch the ceremony on his computer on live streaming video. He
called before the horses were even off the field. What a thrill
and what an honor to have the Mountain Horses represented!
New and Improved
When you visit SRF next you’ll see evidence of our latest
projects. Rick Borher has been working to add three new tacking
areas to the barn. We’re tearing out the old tack room that
we never use to create more space. It will really help smooth out
delays and wait time getting horses tacked and ridden.
If you drive past the main arena toward the back of the farm,
you’ll see our new dressage arena. It is regulation size (20m x
60m) plus approximately 20 feet additional area around the actual
riding surface. We’ve had several days of dozer work and
we’re in the process of hauling the gravel then sand to create the
perfect riding surface. In a matter of days, it will be ready to
use. Remember Margo Kirn is coming on Tuesdays to give dressage
lessons. You are welcome to set up times with her and come join
the fun!.
Welcome Joe, Sandy, and Linda
We’d like to welcome Joe and Sandy Minard and Sandy’s sister,
Linda to Stoner Ridge Farm. They have purchased Duke (a some
other great horses from us and from the Drenik’s). Duke will remain
in training until arrangements are made for him to be shipped to Iowa. Joe,
Sandy, and Linda came and spent a couple of days with us taking
lessons and learning about gaited horses. They were a pleasure to
have here at the farm. We are excited to be able to introduce
them to the world of the gaited horse.
Erin to have Surgery
Unfortunately, Erin can't fight the battle with her gall-bladder no
longer. After undergoing tests, the doctor has determined that it
isn’t functioning properly. So on Monday, 7/30 out it
comes. Please remember her in your prayers - that her
pain will be alleviated and that her recovery will be swift so she can
still show at the World Show.
Indiana/Irvine
Weekend before last found Robert, Erin and me in New Castle,
Indiana for the Indiana Celebration. Even though the turn out was
light for the Mountain Horses the competition was strong. Our
congratulations goes to Barb’s Stormy Knight and Nancy for their
first place wins in the EC Region classes and to Robert for his win in
the Gelding Trail Class. Pepper won the Open Trail class and
placed reserve in the Trail Pleasure Championship. Silver placed
1st with me in the Amateur class and 2nd in the Ladies Class. Charlie
and Brian were in Irvine and had a good show as well. Toco placed
first and the other horses placed in their classes as well. See
the web site for details.
White Pine
Last weekend SRF traveled to White Pine, TN for the South East
shows. Nancy Copland was able to join us and we had a great time. The
weather was cooperative and the horses did a fantastic job.
We were especially impressed with our youngsters -Apollo placed
reserve in the 2 yo trail class. Sands of Time won the
Geldings Trail class and the 3 yo Trail Class as well. Doug and Jill
can take pride as well in Jewel who placed first in the 3 yo Fillies
class one day and 3rd the next and placed reserve in Conformation. Nancy
and Don Copland’s filly, Pepper did well placing reserve in the
Western Class and Mares Trail. Charlie won with her in the
Men’s Trail and place 3rd in the Trail Championship. Stormy
placed 2nd in the Geldings Trail class. Merry Go Blue was
awesome. He placed reserve the first day in the Stallion Classic
and Classic Championship. The second day, he won Conformation and
the Stallions class. Steve Heuslein’s horses did a fantastic
job. Jazzy placed reserve in the CTP Mares and Silver placed 1st
in the 4 yo Class one day and 2nd the next. I placed 3rd in the
Ladies Open Classic. All the horses competing placed in their
divisions. Diamond Girl placed 4th in Western and Mares Trail
with Brian. Tribute to Hank placed third in a though Classic
Geldings class. Likewise, Toco placed 4th in his CTP
Stallions/Geldings class.
Stoner Ridge Farm results are on our web site. The other
results will be on the UMH site soon. Thanks everyone . . for
your support and dedication!
“Riding is a partnership. The horse lends
you his strength, speed and grace, which are greater than yours. For
your part you give him your guidance, intelligence and understanding,
which are greater than his. Together you can achieve a richness
that alone neither can.

New Owners
Congratulations to Doug and Jill Drenik on their
purchase of Jake’s Mountain Echo and Cappy Beth. These horses
will be a great fit to their herd and will bring many hours of
enjoyment
July Summer Shows Update
The first annual Summer Gala Horse Show was held in
Fletcher, NC June 8-9. The show was combined with horses from the
National Walking Horse Association (flat shod). The additional
classes helped off-set UMH expenses, and it also helped spread out our
classes so we had more time to enjoy the show.
It was great to have Nancy Copland, Steve Heuslein & his friend
Sydney, Randall & Ben Stutman join us. Ben did an outstanding
job with his filly, Diamond Girl, placing 1st in the Juvenile Western,
2nd in Trail Obstacle, and 3rd in the Trail Pleasure Class. He
also received third in the Juvenile Versatility.
In spite of flight delays, Steve and Sydney made it to the show on
Friday even if their luggage didn’t. Victor kindly loaned Steve
a coat so he could show and we were able to gather up the other items
he needed. He did a great job with Silver placing reserve in the
Amateur Classic class and placing 3rd with Jazzy in the CTP Mares. Nancy
Copland looked great on Stormy placing 3rd in the Ladies Trail Class.
The Kentucky State Championship Show was held in Harrodsburg
on June 29-30. The weather was hot and muggy especially after the
rain on Thursday.
It was great to get to visit with clients—especially those who
have to travel such a long distance to come to the show. Steve
made it in again. Harold and Gayle Brown along with their
granddaughter drove all the way from PA. Scott and Barrie came
from down from Bloomfield. Nancy Copland drove up from IN. Doug
and Jill came along with Jill’s parents. They also had some new
folks with them from Iowa who had purchased a couple of horses. Frank
and Nancy Puckett were also with us to watch their filly show.
The classes this year were well represented and the competition was
as hot as the weather. Congratulations to Steve Heuslein and
Robert for their winning performance in the Country Trail Pro Am class
with Jazzy. Pepper won the Four Gait (Erin) and the Men’s Open
(Charlie).

K.E.E.P. Rewards
Coming
K.E.E.P., Kentucky Equine Education Program, is channeling tax
revenues collected on stud fees back into the equine industry in order
to promote Kentucky bred horses. Thousands of dollars will
be awarded to Kentucky breeds for promotion. The Mountain Horse
industry has been included and breeders will soon reap financial
benefits from 2006. Each association determined how their rewards
program would work based on criteria provided by the KY Racing
Authority. UMH members have been designated to receive nearly
$50,000. Owners of KY bred horses (bred and foaled in KY)
will receive funds directly from K.E.E.P. High Point winners (1st
only ) and Breeders Cup participants (1st through 6th) will receive
benefits. 2007 and 2008 are also designated years to be rewarded in
the same way and with the same amount as 2006. Thanks to Bruce and
Vanessa Crowe for their hard work developing the program and securing
these funds for us.
Note: Since the award goes to the horse, High Point
Amateur, Novice, and Juvenile class winners are not included.

Junior League Invitation
A representative from the Junior League Saddlebred Horse Show
called last week to invite Stoner Ridge Farm to present the colors one
night during their show. The Junior League has a 70 year history
of prestigious national competition for the Saddlebreds.
SRF will present the colors at 6:00 P.M. on July 10th at the
Red Mile in Lexington. Come join us for this great honor.
Sincere Sympathy
Our hearts go out to Nancy Copland who lost her mother last Tuesday
night. Even though she was elderly, her death was unexpected.
During the day on Tuesday, Nancy and her mom had lunch and enjoyed
one another’s company. Nancy also lost her dad not long ago - back
in November of 2006. Again, our hearts go out to both Don and
Nancy. Please remember them in your prayers.
Membership Required
Remember, if you are planning to show UMH, KMSHA, or RMH that
owners, trainers, and exhibitors are required to be members of the
respective associations. Both RMH and KMSHA require exhibitors
cards. It will help me out a lot if you will copy your cards
and send them with this month’s payment. The numbers have
to be included on our paperwork. I’ll also need copies of
papers if I don’t already have them. Thanks for all your help!
A New Venue
Every Tuesday afternoon on the west end of our arena, you’ll
find something new going on. It’s new to SRF and the
gaited horse world but it is classic instruction for most
equestriennes. Yes, we’ve been bitten by the dressage bug. Erin,
and several other ladies are all taking classic dressage lessons from
Margo Kirn. We are even building a dressage arena in the back
pasture so our ladies can practice their tests.
The results of their hard work paid off at the Secretariat Center
last Sunday when Margo, Kristi, Erin, and Nancy Puckett competed in
their first “real” dressage show. Our congratulations go out
to all the ladies and especially Erin who won a first, second, and the
high point award for all the gaited horses. Margo took four
horses and won a first among several other ribbons. Nancy won a
third and sixth. The dressage world is a very different venue. Many
folks there had never seen gaited horses. Erin’s next dressage
competition will by at Antebellum Farm in Lexington on July 8th. There
will also be stadium jumping. Erin’s time is at 3:46 and 4:00.
Welcome
We’d like to welcome several new folks and new horses to SRF.
Tammy Hillis from Texarkana, Texas has sent her cute gelding, River
Phoenix, to SRF. Robin Sperry from Washington State has sent us a very
gentle red chocolate yearling filly. Don and Nancy Copland bought
a beautiful Merry Go Blue colt from Doug and Jill Drenik that we plan
to show this fall. Joseph Giorgio has sent another filly for us
to work. We’re also expecting a weanling from Susan Kline who
is moving from PA to KY soon. We’ll enjoy getting to know these
folks and their horses.
Colt Raffle
SRF has raffle tickets for Smooth
Venture, the UMH raffle colt.
They are only $5 or 6 for $20.
He is pictured on the web site. The drawing
will be done at the World Show.

World Show Plans in Full
Swing
The time is drawing near so we’ve begun making plans for one of
the largest shows of the year—the UMH World Show which will be held
again in Harrodsburg.
We want to thank everyone for your support and willingness to
contribute to the double Diamond sponsorship contributed by Stoner
Ridge Farm and our clients. It is your support that enhances the
quality of the show. We will receive a two page ad in the
magazine, two sets of box seats, entrance to the Blue Diamond Room
(located near the entrance ramp to center ring), parking passes,
exhibitor party tickets, priority stall reservations, etc. Again,
thank you for all you do and how you support us.
As always, we will have made pre-entries for classes we are pretty
sure of by the deadline (June 30 this year). If the horses are
pre-entered, we receive a discounted price of $35 per class rather
than the $50 that is required for late entries. Once a horse is
pre-entered, all classes regular classes are $35. Horses will also be
in the program.
We will want to make sure all horses are registered with AGMH if
you plan to show them in one of the four special classes for AGMH
registered horses only. We will also need to get all Breeders’
Cup registrations done by July 14 in order to be able to show them in
the Breeders’ Cup classes on Wed. of the World Show. It is
especially exciting with the added advantage of the K.E.E.P. rewards. Please
help keep me on track <G>.
We will be in barn 10. If you have horses you want to bring
that you are working, you are welcome to bring them and join us there. Just
let me know so we’ll reserve your space. We’ll be staying at
the Day’s Inn (formerly the Best Western). If you haven’t
made reservations, do so ASAP. Rooms are filling up. We’re
looking forward to the fellowship and great times we always enjoy at
Harrodsburg!
“Whether you’re showing or trail riding, the
principles of
training are the same.”
World Show Baskets
There will be a new responsibility for many farms at the World Show
this year. We will be preparing baskets for the box seats. SRF
will be taking care of the baskets on Saturday, Grand Championship
Day. We will provide refreshments as well as the labor to
distribute over 50 baskets.
As always, I’m asking for your help. Last year, our farm
provided Sparkling Grape Juice that looked like Champaign. We
could do that again plus treats - something sweet, something
salty and the shrimp was nice too. Perhaps folks you know will
want to make donations of food items for advertising. We’ll
also need water and drinks. I thought it was cool a few years ago
when we provided items to help advertise our horses. I included a
calculator with a short note because our horse was the leading high
money horse at the time. Do you have something you’d like to include
to represent your horse? We’ll be glad to include it. We
can have a great time including creative items along with the
refreshments.
The show begins at 6:00 so we’ll need to be done by 5:30 or so.
Let me know if you can help. Thanks!
Advertise your farm or your horse with
the basket items you supply.
UMH Board Meets
The UMH Board met June 27 at the UMH property. First on the
agenda was a presentation by Don Copland sharing the purpose of the
UMH Foundation and the architect’s design for the new Equestrian
Center. It is truly a phenomenal plan. The philosophy is to
provide a place where people can go to enjoy their horses and to
fellowship with other horse lovers. It is far beyond just an
arena and stalls. The barns have been designed with courtyards
and areas where people can show horses for sale etc. There is an
outdoor and an indoor arena with a show office and warm up area near
by. There’s a “main street” for vendors and a museum. There
are plans for every type of equestrian sport imaginable. It is
truly a fantastic design. Plans are moving forward to secure
funding. We just can’t wait. I know it is an ambitious
dream but we are confident that there is enough support out there to
move forward. The remainder of the meeting focused on the FEI
games and the upcoming World Show. Come join us. It will be
great!

V.W. Perry Takes SRF Photos
V.W. and Susan Perry came out to the farm a couple of weeks ago to
take photos of our horses. We had several clients who requested
that we get a photographer to come out to get some good pictures. The
Perry’s did a great job capturing under saddle and conformation
shots. It was a beautiful, clear day with lost of brilliant
sunshine so the pictures turned out great. We weren’t able to
do all the horses during one afternoon. If you didn’t get your
horse photographed this time, be sure to let us know if you are
interested in this service and we’ll have V.W. and Susan come back
out. They are located in Winchester. Be sure to check out
their web site at www.vwperryphotos.com. Pictures
from the Bourbon County show are also on their site.
