 KMSHA International

The final show of the 2007 show season for Stoner Ridge Farm was the KMSHA/SMH International Grand Championships held October 15-20. Overall, the show ran well with a few glitches.  Show management was easy to work with and they were helpful with entries and questions.   It is unfortunate that there were controversial judging issues that came to light the week before the show and that some judges were reassigned.  Needless to say, it created anxiety among the exhibitors. Overall, however, Stoner Ridge Farm did well winning 11 blue ribbons.

We were very pleased with all the horses at this final show of 2007.  They were all in top form and performed like the champions they are.  Congratulations to Susie Kline and her sweet filly, WR Precious Ray of Hope, who won the KMSHA Weanling  Championship.  It is hard to believe she was raised on a bucket.  Way to go!

Don & Nancy’s weanling colt by  Merry Go Blue won his weanling qualifying class. Other horses did well in conformation.  Silver Sundown won the 4 & 5 yo Stallion  conformation class and went on to place reserve in the Open Stallion championship conformation.  Jewel also did well, winning the 2 & 3 yo Mares Conformation class and went on to place reserve in the mare conformation championship.

In our under saddle classes, Sands of Time was such a handsome guy in the 2 & 3 yo Fillies/Geldings Trail class placing 1st  and  he did well in Trail Obstacle as well.

Most impressive was FR’s Apollo in the 2 yo Futurity class placing 1st as was April achieving a unanimous 1st place in the SMH Western Class.  Nancy  did a great job with Stormy in the Jack Benny class.  He was just awesome.

I was especially pleased to win the large Ladies’ Amateur Classic with Silver.  He also won the Jr. Horse Trail Obstacle.

Pepper’s Just Plain Pretty made a spectacular  performance in the Open 4 Gait class placing 2nd.  She and Erin also won the Ladies’ Western with a unanimous 1st place decision.

Gumdrop made some great shows.  She was so smooth.  She placed reserve in the CTP 4 and older mares and in the Mares Championship.

Jazzy had some great performances placing in most classes and reserve in the 4 and over CTP/Trail Futurity.

We enjoyed our time spent with everyone and will look forward to next year’s show season.  There’s no telling what excitement awaits.  You’re always welcome to Join SRF for good friends, good times & good horses.

   Changes at SRF

It is the time of the year for change at Stoner Ridge Farm. Now that show season is behind us, many folks are looking forward to spending time at home with their equine companions.

Doug and Jill have taken Sands of Time and Jewel home and will be bringing Flash and another 2 year old next week.  They also made the tough decision to geld Apollo which was done last week.  We will be taking Stormy and April home to Don and Nancy and we’ll  will be bringing China and Penny back.   Gary Seibert has taken Fortune home and brought us a pretty palomino stallion, Sundance.  Nancy Puckett took Gumdrop home and we have Cat Walker and Sundance to ride in her place.  Pepper, Derby Blue, and Hope have been turned out for some well deserved R & R.  Sandman will also have quite a lot of turn out time this winter.  Many other show horses will be worked lightly with more turn out time. It’s a Deal Lucille owned by Robin Spenny has been picked up but may be back in the spring to start.  We also have some other horses of our own to start.

We have done some trading and we now own Sophie.  Charlie will be riding her.  Sandman’s Takin’ Chances, a coming two year old gelding out of Fancy by Sandman, belongs to Don and Nancy.

Several folks have called with horses to start.  We’re a little understaffed but hope to have a new rider soon.  We’ll get reorganized ASAP and we’ll be taking those new horses before you know it. Thanks for your patience!

How you play show some of your character . . . how you win or lose shows all of it.

Steve

Steve Heuslein will be coming to SRF to ride with us November  20  -  21.  He wants to hone his riding skills and go on a couple of trail rides.  We’ll also be starting his new gelding, Capital Venture.  We always enjoy Steve’s company and we’re looking forward to his visit.

Brian

Last Wednesday, we had to say goodbye to Brian and his family.  They are moving to be near Kelly’s folks in Oklahoma.   We are proud of all Brian learned and what he accomplished while he was working at SRF. We were all sorry to see him go.  If you’d like to send him a card, his new address is 228 East 8th Street, Wewoka, OK  74884.  We wish him the best of luck but can’t help wishing he didn’t have to go.

UMH Trail Ride/Fish Fry

We had a great day for the annual UMH Trail Ride.  There were about 40 folks who came out.  The youth camped out the night before and had a great time. Bruce Crowe took a tumble from his horse but he has recovered and is doing well.  We especially enjoyed Michael Brummer riding with us.  I think it was his first official trail ride.

We had great food and fellowship—the fish was fantastic!  Make plans to come next year and enjoy the fellowship on the first Sat. of October.

Taking it on the Road

Last Monday, Robert, Charlie, and Erin left for Waterloo, IA to hold a clinic with Sandy & Joe Minard and their family.  They are the folks who bought Minga and Duke.  They also bought some very nice trail horses from Doug and Jill.  The SRF crew will be teaching basic horsemanship along with giving riding lessons.

Doug & Jill have invited Larry Whitesell and our crew to work together at their place in early December.

Robert will be going back to Brays Island in February to do another 3 day clinic.  I hope to make it SC if I can.  Give Robert a call if your group is interested in a clinic.  Robert does a great job.  There’s always more to learn!

Nancy & Frank

When the weather turns chilly and Jack Frost turns our breath to white clouds, Frank and Nancy Puckett head south for Cabo.  We will miss them!  Nancy’s become part of ‘us.’ We can’t wait until they return in the spring.
