After a week of blazing temperatures and hot competition, Stoner Ridge Farm came out on top in the Open Western World Grand Championship and the 3-4 Year Old Open Park Grand Championship. Robert rode Barb’s Stormy Knight (owned by the Copland’s) to the Western win followed closely by Charlie on Gaitway’s Jasmine Joy (owned by Steve Heuslein) who placed reserve, Erin on Pepper’s Just Plain Pretty for third, and Brian on Diamond Girl for fifth! Judy Brummer rode Legendary Lady (AOT this year) to a sixth place tie. What a class! Congratulations as well to Charlie and Rosey (owned by the Drenik’s) who took the 3-4 YO Park Grand Championship. What exciting classes they were. ERIN ATTENDS CLINIC WITH TOM POULIN

You can’t keep a good man (or woman) down for long. Erin had a very successful surgery to remove her gall bladder and is back in the saddle again. She’s feeling much better and is almost at full capacity riding horses.

Erin, Margo Kirn, Jill Drenik and Nancy Puckett attended a dressage clinic held at Pine Knoll farm with the world renown Tom Poulin. Both Erin and Margo took lessons while Jill and Nancy observed. Mr. Poulin operates Flagship Training center based in Wellington and Chicago. In his lengthy career, he has been recognized as a top rider, trainer, USEF judge, instructor and clinician. He has also been one of the driving forces behind the development of dressage as a sport in the U.S. As a successful competitor through Grand Prix level, Mr. Poulin honed his skills in Germany and has worked with many other gifted trainers. A dedicated teacher, Mr. Poulin has given lectures all over the world including Bermuda, Hawaii, South Africa, and England. He is able to quickly address habits in both horse and rider that prevent them from reaching their full potential. Mr. Poulin was a considerate teacher and more knowledge was gained about the world of dressage through his lessons.

Ashley

Nine year old Ashley Johnson has been coming to ‘work’ at SRF in exchange for lessons. You wouldn’t believe the talent of this young lady. She’s ridden all Robert’s show horses and has done a great job! Look out 11 and under-here we come!

RMH INTERNATIONAL SEPT 18-22

The second of the three most exciting shows for the Mountain Horse industry will be held at the KY Horse Park on September 18-22nd - the Rocky Mountain International. We’ll be moving into our stalls on Monday in order to be prepared for Tuesday’s 9:00 classes. Fortunately, we’re close enough to the Horse Park that we will be staying at home and driving back and forth daily.

Be sure you are an RMH member and if you plan to show that you have an exhibitors’ card. We will also need your original papers to show at the office. Since school is in session, I have to have as much done in advance as possible. You might want to update yourself on RMH rules which are a little different than UMH rules. Notably: 4 1/2 maximum toe length

·         No jackets in trail classes  -  attire is “casual” dark slacks (pin stripes are ok) or black jeans, long sleeved shirt, and riding boots. Vests, hats,  gloves, and spurs are optional

·         Show Pleasure classes require saddlesuit (either solid or pinstripe) or riding slacks or skirt and day coat or sports coat and/or vest

·         On the web site it is stated that “Horses shown in Show Pleasure classes are ineligible to receive the Rea Swan Versatility Award.”  However, I have been emailing Gary Neidert and he said that it was not the intent of the statement to deliberately exclude Show Pleasure horses but that it  is  the trail classes that count.  Since 7 classes count and only two of those are under saddle classes. Gary checked it out and this is not the case.  All horses are eligible, but only the trail pleasure classes will count toward the award.

·         Each exhibitor is allowed only one entry in the pole bending class

·         Cross entries are allowed between Show and Trail Pleasure

·         No two year olds may show under saddle In the Western classes, the 360 is to be done on the haunces

We will be in barns 9 and 10 (926-934 and1017-1025). We have reserved box seats as well and you all are welcome to sit together with us. There are great classes and good times ahead. We’re looking forward to showing horses and seeing everyone.

CASIMIRA CRUZ JOINS SRF STAFF

We’d like to welcome Casimara Cruz to the employee line up at Stoner Ridge Farm. He is a hard worker and will be an asset to our staff. We decided to restructure a couple of the positions here with new job descriptions. Casimara will be responsible for feeding, cleaning stalls, mowing and basic maintenance. That will free Cesario to help more with the horses. He’ll be able to tack, bathe, and care more for the horses themselves without the responsibility of mowing and cleaning stalls.

We will be saying good-bye to Juan Romero who has been with us part-time for three years. Juan came in and fed and cleaned 20 stalls before going to his regular mechanic’s job every morning at 8 a.m. He did a good job for us. We really appreciate our entire staff. They are a great group to work with and they are pretty talented crew.

Thank You! Thank You!! Thank You!!!

We just want to let everyone know how thankful we are for you. You are such a blessing! I had to be at school, but everyone helped keep the SRF crew straight. I especially want to thank Rick and Laurie for the beautiful gates they made and their help with decorating the barn. It looked great! Everyone has been so generous with your time and gifts! Barrie Hughes painted the most beautiful pictures of Merry Go Blue . . . simply breathtaking! The head shot really captures his personality. Thank you to everyone who helped with the baskets for the box seats. Don & Nancy, Scott & Barrie, Steve & Sydney and Harold & Gayle all helped by bringing items for the baskets: pens, notebooks, water, candy, chips, cookies, pretzels, apples, Clementines, and on and on. Brian’s wife, Kelley, was also a big help getting everything packed up and delivered. It turned out to be fun to get it all together. To be perfectly honest, I was a little concerned about getting everything bought to go in the baskets and then getting them delivered to the stands. We ended up having a good time and lots of goodies too. We had several compliments on our baskets and it was because everyone contributed and we had such good help getting it together. Thanks for the snacks and drinks at the barn too. Charlie especially like all the Oreo cookies <G>.

I know SRF has the best clients in the world! We really appreciate all the help, the gifts, the saddles, and the compliments for the SRF crew.
You all are just GREAT for words!

LET ME TEACH YOU

When you are tense, let me teach you to relax.

When you are short tempered, let me teach you to be patient.

When you are short sighted, let me teach you to see.

When you are quick to react, let me teach you to be thoughtful.

When you are angry, let me teach you to be respectful.

When you feel superior, let me teach you to be respectful.

When you are self-absorbed, let me teach you to think of greater things.

When you are arrogant, let me teach you humility.

When you are lonely, let me be your companion.

When you are tired, let me carry the load.

When you need to learn, let me teach you.

After all, I am your horse.
