Big South Fork-What a Blast!
Friday, May 5th found Robert, Erin, Rick, Laurie, Dr. Bill, Don, and Nancy all heading south for a weekend devoted to rest, relaxation, and fellowship in the Big South Fork Recreational Area. I headed down after school. The cabin at Bear Creek was only a couple of hours away and I was glad to get there before night fall. Thanks to Kim Adleta a friend and past client who rented it to us for the weekend. Erin, Laurie, and Nancy had tin-foil dinners well under way when I arrived. Erin had also baked a home-made German Chocolate cake which turned out to be scrumptious. After supper, we sat around the fire telling tails with a joke or two thrown in.
On Saturday, we hit the trails. It was a beautiful time of the year to ride. We all rode out together. Rick, Laurie, Erin, and Dr. Bill opted for a long version and rejoined us at the cabin just in time to head over to Wilderness Resorts for all the festivities. Congratulations to Dr. Dan for drawing the winning Derby horse, Barbaro!
After supper, our Run for the Carnations turned out to be quite a competitive event. With the spinning of the wheel, jockeys rode their stick horses around the track. Our very own Nancy Copand was the winner this year! As hard as it is to imagine, H.T. turned out to be winner of the Derby hat decorating contest. He played his role well and had everyone rolling with laughter. The call went out for volunteers and unknowingly, Laurie was auctioned (along with 3 others) to the highest bidder (thanks Robert and Rick!). The timed challenge required shooting targets with a malfunctioning dart gun, playing jacks, etc. It was a hoot. Thanks Laurie, for being such a great sport. We all had a great time playing games, sitting around the fire, or just visiting.
On Sunday, we continued to joke around over breakfast. We took our time to enjoy that second cup of coffee or (Diet Pepsi). It was sooooo relaxing to be able to sit and simply talk with friends about common interests and to get to know everyone better. How blessed we are to have the opportunity we have to enjoy each other and our horses.
Thanks everyone for a fabulous weekend.
Farewell
Congratulations to several of our clients for their recent sales. Mo Jo Star (Diana & Darrel Hicks), Seivert's Sundown Beau-Duke (Frank & Nancy Puckett), and Scout (Mike & Pam Miller). All these horses were sold to great ladies who live at Brays Island, South Carolina.

First Annual Ladies' Auxiliary Charity Horse
Show-WooHoo!
To exhibitors and spectators alike, the first annual Ladies' Auxiliary show went off without a hitch thanks to the hard work of Cyndee Breslin and all the other women who are in the Ladies' Auxiliary. Lots of phone calls and extra effort paid off for the show and assured that many exhibitors participated. All classes were sponsored and several classes had bonus prizes besides the standard paybacks for a AAA show. Erin donated a beautiful, hand-made necklace, bracelet, and ear-ring set for the Ladies' Auxiliary Trail Pleasure class-congratulations to Wilda Derickson for being the recipient of this award. Stoner Ridge Farm provided a rose for each lady exhibitor who rode in the Ladies Open Classic class. We also had a spray of roses that went to the winner of the class-congratulations to Vera Patterson.
Lot's of folks came to support the show. We're glad that both Don and Nancy's children (and their families) who got to come. Ella made a great ride on Jazzy in the lead line. She's always very serious for her ride but she grins when she talks about winning a blue ribbon.
The horses performed well. Congratulations to Judy Brummer and her great ride on Legendary Lady in the Amateur Country Trail Pleasure class. If you missed the show, plan next year to come and start thinking now about what YOU can do to help make it even more special next year.
Babies, Babies, Babies
They're everywhere here at SRF-the babies are simply beautiful this year.
To the left is Don & Nancy's filly, Sandman's Ebony Dream out of Patches Pride of Ebony (April) and Sandman. Isn't she cute? All our babies are here. Erin's mare, Summer, foaled last week and has a beautiful chocolate filly. Jill and Doug traded their mare, Minga, for Dusty's Derby Eve and her foal. Congratulations to everyone!
Welcome
We have new horses at SRF. Thank you to Frank and Nancy Puckett who have sent us a two year old colt, Newsboy, to start. Thanks also, to Gary Seivert who brought us Fortune, a young Morgan stallion. We want to welcome the Lorance family (Robert, Kim, and Shannon) from right here in Paris. They brought their trail obstacle horse, Lucky Charm. We are looking forward to working with these owners and helping their horses establish a firm foundation!
Gaited Morgans Breaking Ground
May 21st, found Robert, Laurie, and Lyngle joining Saundra and Gary Seibert for the Morgan show at Wilmington, OH's Robert's arena. Gary has been working hard to establish a division of Gaited Morgans. He wants folks to see they can be a pleasure horse for the masses rather than the more typical, up in the bridle show horse. Bliss and Blu were in the first gaited Morgan conformation class and placed second and third. Congratulations to Robert and Laurie for doing a fine job exhibiting these two outstanding fillies. They have gone home but will return in September.
High Point Standings
Several SRF horses are up high in the running for UMH High Points. It is early in the season (only 5 National shows out of 18 so far) but we're on the right track. Remember, only 10 shows count.
