is a full service equine training facility located only 30 minutes from the Kentucky Horse Park in Paris, KY. We utilize proven horsemanship techniques to help reduce horses' fears as we teach them to respect their handlers whether we're starting a horse under saddle or helping a
weanling learn to lead. Horses learning to accept a saddle are all started in the round pen. Before a horse is ever put under saddle, he is educated on the
ground. We begin teaching horses to flex and bend laterally as they learn to move away from pressure. From this point we slowly introduce the saddle and snaffle bit to the horse only after an equine dentist has removed wolf teeth and prepared the mouth to accept a bit.
Within the structure of our training program, we make adjustments to meet the unique needs and talents of each animal with the goal that every horse meet his highest potential whether it is on the trail or in the show ring.

Robert
Lawson, Trainer/Owner, Robert has been involved with gaited horses most of his life. As a youngster, he rode over the hills of Eastern Kentucky long before any of the Mountain Horses were known as a breed. He got away from horses as a young adult when he worked for an architectural pre-cast firm. It wasn't until Robert acquired a horse for his daughters that he rediscovered his love for riding. He began starting his own stock and it wasn't long until other folks saw what a talent he had for training. That has been close to twenty years ago. Since that time, Robert has become a full-time trainer of Mountain Horses. He has attended numerous clinics that have helped develop his own unique style. Robert understands that the process of education is never complete. Over the last few years, he has established an outstanding reputation as a trainer with many prestigious awards to his credit. In 2005 he was presented with the Junior Robinson Trainer Award. His amateur, novice, and juvenile students continue to be among the top performers on the circuit. Thirteen year-old Shannon Lorance was the recipient of the RMH Ashley Hytry Award in 2005 and again in 2006. In 2007, Robert won the coveted UMH Open Western Grand Championship. He has also become an outstanding clinician in his own right traveling all over the United States teaching his Foundation First Mountain Horse Training TM techniques. Stoner Ridge Farm is not only fortunate to have his training expertise with horses but to have benefit of his ability to train people as well which can be seen in all the skilled riders from Stoner Ridge Farm.

Charlie
DeAtley, came to Stoner Ridge Farm as a 16 year-old-looking for a part-time job. For two years, Charlie was Robert's right hand man when it came to working in the barn. When Charlie graduated, he needed more hours, but he didn't know anything about training horses or riding for that matter. Robert assured Charlie that he could teach him what he needed to know, and the rest, as they say, is history. Charlie's patience and work ethic have served him well. By the end of his first full show season, Charlie rode to win the UMH Reserve Trail Pleasure Grand Championship. The following year, he was undefeated on the UMH circuit in Trail Obstacle and placed reserve at the RMH International. Charlie has also ridden to win UMH and KMSHA High Point awards in Western, Mares Trail Pleasure, Trail Pleasure Championship, Central Region Classic Pleasure, Stallions Park Pleasure, Men's Open Trail Pleasure, and won the UMH High Money Horse Award for 2003 and 2004. In 2006, Charlie won the Mountain Horse Trainers Challenge held at the annual UMH Spring Fling. He also won the Classic Pleasure World Grand Championship with Merry Go Blue and the RMH Rea Swan Versatility Award with Storm Warning's Thunder. In 2007, Charlie was honored to win the UMH 3-4 Year Old Open Park Grand Championship with Robert’s Rockin’ Rosey. Charlie has also developed great skill in the round pen starting young horses. While the winning record that Charlie has established is phenomenal, his training skill is unsurpassed. We are proud to have him on staff at Stoner Ridge Farm.

Erin Lawson DeAtley (available for lessons only),
has been riding since she was a child just like her dad,
Robert. They make a good team. Erin has a great deal of savvy when it comes
to working horses in the round pen. She has great perception about their
attitude and what they need in order to perform. Erin has outstanding skills
to her credit. In 2004, she added trail obstacle training to her list of
specialties and in 2005, she added four gait. Her first year riding as an
adult, she won the UMH Novice Trail Pleasure High Point Award. In 2003 she
rode Santa Anna to be the Reserve UMH Western World Grand Champion. In 2004,
she rode Merry's Painted Surprise to win the UMH Kentucky State Championship
in the Country Trail Pleasure Division. In 2005 Erin rode Strike it Rich, a
two year old filly, to win the UMH World Champion Junior Horse Trail
Obstacle class. In 2006, Erin rode Silver Sundown to place reserve in the 3
Year Old Stallions/Geldings High Point division with her amateur rider
receiving the High Point award in the Classic division. She was also
awarded the UMH High Point Award for Pepper's Just Plain Pretty in the Four
Gait division. At the RMH International this year, Erin received one of the
top honors in the Mountain Horse industry when she was awarded the Sam
Tuttle Memorial Award for her performance with Legendary Lady. We
appreciate her talents and dedication here at Stoner Ridge Farm.
Kevin Kiper,
is a 19 year-old resident of Lexington, KY and has a strong background in cutting and reigning horses. He was introduced to the mountain horse breeds in 2006 when he became the co-trainer of Volz’s Sony at Wright Way Farm. Kevin has known nothing but success since then. Sony when on to win the UMH World Grand Championship that year in Country Trail and in 2007, Kevin co-trained another UMH Country Trail World Grand Champion, Big Man’s Pride. His favorite part of training horses is watching a young or inexperienced horse that he has worked with, like the two listed above, achieve success in the show ring as well as on the trail. Kevin is looking forward to many great years to come in the mountain horse industry. We are glad to add him to the line-up of outstanding trainers at Stoner Ridge Farm.
Logan Banks, is a new part time employee at Stoner Ridge Farm. He is a student at George Rogers High School in Winchester and is working when he isn’t in school. Logan is looking forward to learning the ropes as he rides and trains horses. We appreciate his respectful and willing attitude He will be able to compete in the juvenile 12-17 division this year. Welcome, Logan!
